The Stagecoach Fire, near Lake Isabella, grew by 50% overnight and destroyed several structures, the Kern County Fire Department said.
At 10 a.m. Thursday, it was listed at 6,700 acres burned (10½ square miles) and 10% containment. The previous afternoon, it had been 4,250 acres.
The map above shows Wednesday evening’s perimeter in red. The black line shows the rough outline of unconfirmed hot spots recorded by satellite imagery early Thursday. They extend into the Sequoia National Forest 12 miles south of Lake Isabella.
There are no mandatory evacuations, but Kern County officials have issued an evacuation recommendation for the area shown in yellow on the map.
The fire began Monday around 3:30 p.m. The cause is under investigation.
