The coronavirus pandemic continues to have a devastating impact on many U.S. business, including the sports media industry. On Monday, layoff notices were handed out at NBC Sports Bay Area, where on-air anchor Kelli Johnson was among those let go.
Johnson, a familiar face to local sports viewers, confirmed the news Tuesday with a post on her Twitter page.
“I have been told that my contract will not be renewed,” wrote Johnson, who has spent 18 years with NBC Sports, including stops in Washington, D.C., Houston and San Francisco. “I was not alone in getting let go yesterday, so many talented friends & people also lost their jobs. But I have to admit I had a great run and am so grateful for the amazing friends I met along the way.”
